IN 1998, Ong Beng Hee created history when he became the first Malaysian to win the World Junior Championship at Princeton, USA, beating Egypt’s Wael El Hindi in the final.
A year later, his success was bested by a teenage Nicol David who became the first Malaysian girl to be crowned World Junior champion and in the process created history by becoming the youngest ever winner then at the age of 14.
