Daren and Wei Feng impress en route to place in the quarter-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a rare moment for Malaysia in the Singapore Open when two men’s singles back-up shuttlers – Liew Daren and Chong Wei Feng – made it to the quarter-finals of a Super Series event for the first time.

Malaysia have had to depend solely on world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei to make an impact in the past. But yesterday, Daren showed that his win over Lee Hyun-il of South Korea at the All-England quarter-finals in March was not a flash in the pan as he defeated the second seed 21-18, 12-21, 21-13 in 55 minutes to march into the last eight.
