PETALING JAYA: Championship leader Jazeman Jaafar (pic) will be back on the track for the fifth round of the British F3 International Series at Brands Hatch in Kent this weekend.
This classic race circuit, loved by drivers and fans alike, promises to deliver three exciting, action-filled F3 races and Jazeman is aiming to be out front again, continuing his impressive form.
The Petronas talent programme driver has finished in the top six in every race this season and has been on the podium on six occasions so far, including two wins.
As the series reach the halfway stage at Brands Hatch, he tops the drivers championship, 13 points ahead of Jack Harvey and 20 in front of third placed Carlos Sainz.
Jazeman has high expectations for the weekend.
“I’ve upped my game this season and attribute my success to a number of factors like more experience, increasing my fitness and building my confidence.
“The team around me at Carlin are also very stable and that has helped as well. I’m in excellent shape and am anticipating another strong weekend.
“I’ve already raced at Brands this season, running in the F3 Euro Series, but that was on the Indy layout, which is a very short lap.
“I had my second win of the season there, so that will be a small advantage when we start out this weekend.”
The series will be running on the Grand Prix layout of the Brands Hatch circuit and Jazeman is a fan of the track.
“The circuit has so many different challenges with such a variety of corners, high and low speed sections, changes of camber and undulations that you need to get every part of it absolutely right for the best lap time.
“Having taken back the championship lead at the last round, I have no intention of letting it go,” said the 19-year-old.
“Three or four guys behind me are threats and my biggest rivals are two of my team mates – Jack and Carlos – so I’m expecting some very close racing.”
His weekend starts tomorrow with two practice sessions and continues with qualifying and the first of the three races on Saturday. The final two races are on Sunday.
