MONTREAL: Romain Grosjean admitted finishing second in Sunday’s action-packed Canadian Grand Prix had come as a shock as he did not think a podium finish was possible.
The 26-year-old Lotus driver, who qualified seventh for the race, took full advantage of a one-stop race strategy and gained three places during the final laps and eventually wound up just two-and-a-half seconds adrift of race-winner Lewis Hamiton of McLaren. The Frenchman was stuck in fifth place before drivers in front of him began to lose grip during the final stages of the race.
