PETALING JAYA: It was a sweet 16th birthday for Low Khai Jei as he fired a sizzling three-under 68 to win the overall title in the Etiqa Selangor International Junior Masters at the Seri Selangor Golf Club yesterday.
Khai Jei entered the final round in second spot, three shots behind overnight leader Chan Tuck Soon.
But Tuck Soon blew up with a four-over 75 for a total of 214, four strokes behind Khai Jei.
“It was a great birthday present. I played really well in the first nine but I let it get away a little at the 15th. But going into the 18th, I knew I just had to keep the ball on the fairway and try to make the green in regulation and managed a birdie in the end,” said a delighted Khai Jei.
The youngster, who also won the Under-18 title, received the Menteri Besar Cup and a Macbook Air for being the overall (Boys’ Under-15, Under-18 and Under-21) champion.
In the State Secretary Cup (Boys’ Under-12 and Girls’ Under-21), 12-year-old Galven Kendall Green fired five birdies in the final round for a total score of 212 to win the overall title.
Galven also won the Under-12 category by eight shots ahead of Lucas Yee who only managed a 220.
