PETALING JAYA: Defending champion Tan Wei Chean shot an even par round to grab a share of the first-day lead at the Etiqa Selangor International Junior Masters tournament at Seri Selangor Golf Club yesterday.
Playing in the Under-21 category, Wei Chean shot three birdies and three bogeys to finish at even par.
“This is my home course and I enjoy playing here. I guess it shows in the score,” said Wei Chean.
National elite squad golfer Chan Tuck Soon also shot even par to share the lead.
Tuck Soon shot five birdies and five bogeys to finish tied for the lead.
“I had an up-and-down day today. I made a lot of good putts but I also made a lot of mistakes. I just intend to minimise the mistakes tomorrow,” said Tuck Soon.
Hot on their heels is his national team-mate Low Khai Jei, who carded a one-over round.
The players will continue today for the second day of the tournament. Top 60 and ties will compete on Sunday.
The event, sanctioned by the Malaysia Golf Association (MGA), sees 96 players from Malaysia and Singapore competing this year.
