SHEFFIELD: Leading figures in snooker called for Stephen Hendry to be knighted on Wednesday after the seven-time world champion announced his retirement from the sport.
The 43-year-old Scot, regarded by many as the sport’s greatest player, quit after bowing out of the ongoing World Championships following a 13-2 quarter-final thrashing by compatriot Stephen Maguire at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre on Tuesday.
