PETALING JAYA: Yamaha Maju Motor rider Mohd Taufiq Roslan is aiming for another podium finish in Round Three of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championships in Kangar this weekend.
Despite being the team’s test rider – meaning points amassed by him will not count towards the team award – Taufiq insists that nothing will stop him from getting on the podium in Kangar.
Taufiq sits third in the CP130 standings on 23 points, behind leaders Mohd Zahqwan Zaidi (Pachie Yuzy Honda Racing) and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing) who are equal on 45 points.
Taufiq managed to finish third on the podium in Kuala Terengganu two weeks ago – his second in the CP130 class since making his debut last year.
“Although my points will not be listed in the CP130 team awards, it does not mean I’m taking this season lightly,” he said.
“I’m looking to finish in the top five in the overall standings and make a clear statement that I’m just as competitive as any other rider in this class.”
He said that last year was a challenging one for him as a rookie in the CP130 class, when he finished 12th overall.
“I have several advantages this year,” said Taufiq.
“I get to test out a range of new parts and set-up which increased my bike’s performance and I am free of pressure, thus helping me to focus better on the race.”
