KUALA LUMPUR: The International Hockey Federation (FIH) will be conducting a high performance coaching course for local coaches in Johor Baru from Nov 7-12 in conjunction with the six-nation Sultan of Johor Cup.
The course is aimed at helping coaches improve their credentials so that they can join the elite group of high performance coaches in the country.
There are only five FIH high performance coaches in Malaysia – Stephen van Huizen, Tai Beng Hai, Wallace Tan, Lim Chow Chuan and Colin Sta Maria, all ex-internationals. Beng Hai is the current national coach while Stephen acts as coordinator for the national teams.
Only those who hold a Level 3 coaching certificate and actively involved in the game are eligible for the course. The FIH will pick 16 candidates from the 20 shortlisted by the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) coaching committee.
The course will be conducted by FIH master coach Datuk Tayyab Ikram of Macau, former Pakistan international Tahir Zaman and Dutchman Seigfried Aikman, who is an FIH Grade One coach.
Tahir is chief coach of the Egypt national team which will be competing in the Olympic qualifiers next year.
