KUALA LUMPUR: The national basketball team will compete in the 4th China-Asean Men’s Invitational Tournament in Pingguo, in the Guangxi province, China, from Tuesday.
It will be the last competition for the team prior to the Jakarta SEA Games next month and national head coach Goh Cheng Huat is targeting the final for his charges.
“It is still too early for the SEA Games and I’ll only finalise the squad for Jakarta after this tournament,” said Cheng Huat.
“I have been told that our opponents in this invitational are not that formidable but we will not underestimate them.
“Our target is to reach the final.”
Malaysia are in Group B with Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Hong Kong and host state Pingguo. Group A comprises Vietnam, Cambodia, Taiwan, Macau and Guangxi.
Malaysia have named a squad comprising seniors Ooi Ban Sin, B. Guganeswaran and K. Satyaseelan together with youngsters Kuek Tian Yuen and Kwaan Yoong Jing.
