KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu have signed Indonesian badminton coach, Sunarno Martotiyoso, to beef up their development programmes to produce talented shuttlers.

Terengganu state sports council director Zainal Abidin Hussin said the coach, who arrived on Sept 7, would initially prepare the Sukma badminton squad for the 2012 Sukma in Pahang.

“Our aim is to win medals in the sport since Terengganu have not won any medals in badminton,” he said yesterday.

Zainal said that Sunarno would be placed at Sekolah Sukan Bukit Nenas (SSBN) in Setiu.

He added that the council would work with the Malaysian Schools Sports Council of Terengganu and the Badminton Association of Terengganu to implement development programmes in Marang, Kemaman, Besut, Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Berang and Dungun starting on Oct 10.

Zainal said there would be additional focus on identifying talented players from the nine to 14 age group. — Bernama
