PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s MotoGP 125cc rider Mohd Zulfahmi Khairuddin returned to his point-winning ways at the Motegi Twin Ring circuit yesterday after finishing the Japanese Grand Prix in 15th spot.
The 20-year-old thus put himself in a better position to reach his season target of finishing 15th overall after amassing 21 points to currently sit in 17th spot with three more races to go.
In the race that was won by team-mate Johann Zarco of Avant-Air Asia-Ajo in 39:49.968, Zulfahmi who is racing under the Air Asia-SIC-Ajo stormed eight places forward from his 23rd spot on the starting grid.
Sepang International Circuit chief executive officer, Datuk Razlan Razali was obviously delighted at Zulfahmi’s superb performance over the weekend, saying it was a sign of better things to come in the upcoming home race in three weeks time.
“Even though Fahmi went through a barren spell for three races, I still had faith that he would pull through.
“I’m obviously ecstatic with Fahmi’s performance after finishing the race in 15 place despite starting out at 23 on the grid,” he said.
The Shell Advance Malaysian Grand Prix will take place at the Sepang International Circuit from Oct 21-23 and then it will be Phillip Island in Australia from Oct 14-16. The final round will be held in Valencia, Spain from Nov 4-6.
