PETALING JAYA: The Moto2 Wildcard Programme for the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix is set to raise the profile of the local racing industry.

Petronas Motorsports general manager Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz said their plan was not only to create better chances for the riders but also the Malaysian racing industry as a whole.

“The Moto2 Wilcard Programme will create better opportunities for riders, engineers and their respective team managements to enhance their skills,” she said.

Under the programme, the riders will be competing on Moriwaki machines.

Anita said Moriwaki had committed to serve the racing industry with the best engineers and bike-tuners during the test sessions and races.

“They will work closely with our local engineers and mechanics on the bike performance, thus facilitating valuable transfer of technology to the Malaysian team,” said Anita.

“Watching how brands like Yamaha, Honda and Moriwaki are putting aside their differences has led us to believe this is the right path towards creating Malaysian world champions.”

Two Wheels Motor Racing (TWMR) have shortlisted seasoned campaigners Mohd Zamri Baba, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman and Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah for the two tickets for this year’s Moto2 wildcard programme.
