INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Few of America's highest-profile sporting events - the Kentucky Derby, the Boston Marathon, and the World Series are on the short list - started before the Indianapolis 500. So when organisers of the IndyCar race decided to celebrate its 100th anniversary this month, they left nothing out.
Practice opens on Saturday with a classic car show. The 269 living starters from previous 500s have been invited to participate in the world's "largest autograph session" on May 28. Longtime track announcer Tom Carnegie and four-time winner A.J. Foyt will be honored with their own special days, and Foyt will drive the pace car on May 29.
