Joy for hosts Perak, Malacca in U-18 event

PETALING JAYA: There was joy for hosts – Perak and Malacca – in the boys’ singles Under-18 events when their top players kept their challenge alive in the Zone A and Zone B competitions of the 100Plus National Junior Circuit yesterday.

Perak and Malacca are hosting the Zone A and Zone B competitions concurrently.

Yesterday, Tan Jin Shen became the sole representative from Malacca’s team to check into the quarter-finals in the boys’ Under-18 when he defeated Mohd Razlan Shah Ridzuan Shah of Negri Sembilan 21-19, 13-21, 21-16.

Today, he will be seeking to upset joint third-fourth seed Mohd Farid of Kuala Lumpur.

Top seed Zulfadli Zulkifli of Kuala Lumpur stayed on course for the title when he beat Mohd Shahdan Mat Desa of Terengganu 21-13, 21-15 to set up a quarter-final clash against Gan Wei Sien of Johor.

In Zone B, Chan Ren Cong and Jason Loo Koon Seng handed Perak a double joy when they marched into the last eight.

Ren Cong blew away Kelantan’s Mohd Fathil Mohd Asif 21-1, 21-6 while Jason beat Selangor’s Mohd Shafiq Shukri 21-17, 21-18.
