Adrian ends his gold medal drought by topping doubles event

PETALING JAYA: National bowler Adrian Ang ended his gold medal drought by grabbing victory for Penang in the doubles event of the Astro inter-state championships at the Sunway Megalanes in Sunway Pyramid yesterday.

Adrian paired up with Aaron Kong and they chalked up a total of 2,567 after six games. Johor’s Muhd Nur Aiman-Kang Bo Long finished second on 2,565 while seasoned national bowlers Alex Liew-Daniel Lim took the bronze medal for Selangor on 2,543.

Adrian, whose last victory was in the Guangzhou Asian Games last November when he partnered Alex to win the doubles event, said that the win was a timely boost for him.

“I know it’s just a medal in the inter-state championships.

“But’s it’s a win anyway, no matter how big or small. And this win has boosted my confidence and I’m really looking forward to better days ahead,” he said.

In the women’s competition, Sarawakians Jacqueline Jenelee Sijore-Dayang Khairuniza Dhiyana posted a whopping 2,591 to claim the gold medal.

Perak’s Sin Li Jane-Syaidatul Afifah finished a distant second on 2,342 and Selangor’s Zatil Iman Abdul Ghani-Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi settled for bronze on 2,331.

In the boys’ doubles, powerhouse Selangor stamped their mark with Muhamad Hafiz Fikri-Muhammad Aizudeen Mustaqin winning the gold medal with a total of 2,430.

Selangor were also winners in the girls’ doubles with Natasya Roslan-Dina Nur Nadia posting a total of 2,462 to take the gold medal.
