WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP): The first-year Melbourne Rebels were the only team to be outclassed in the first round of Super 15 rugby, signalling how far the team has to come in its debut season.
The Rebels lost 43-0 to New South Wales in a match that also highlighted the quality of the Waratahs, who may be the strongest of Australia's five teams. But strong performances by other underdogs produced a series of close matches on Friday and Saturday.
