Hafiz falls in the first round of the Japan Open

PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Mohd Hafiz Hashim was sent packing but two men’s doubles back-up pairs – Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong and Chan Peng Soon-Lim Khim Wah – made it a great outing for Malaysia on a day full of upsets in the Japan Open in Tokyo yesterday.

Hafiz fell 21-16, 13-21, 12-21 to Japan’s Kenichi Tago in the first round. Tago’s reward is a date with another Malaysian, world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei, in the second round.
