China’s weak factor, They may lack in team spirit

DATUK Punch Gunalan was the team manager when Malaysia last won the Thomas Cup in 1992. The 66-year-old Gunalan has left the scene for about two years now after leaving the Badminton World Federation (BWF) as their deputy president. But he still follows the sport with passion. Gunalan talks to Starsport’s LIM TEIK HUAT and says that China are slightly better than the rest and the team spirit factor may be the only thing that could undermine their chances to retain the Cup.

YOU only have to look at the world rankings of all their shuttlers and it is hard to disagree with me if I say China have a very good chance of winning an eighth Thomas Cup title.
