JOHANNESBURG: Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams will perform at a FIFA-endorsed concert in South Africa to mark the end of the World Cup.
Concert organisers said yesterday that Bocelli will take centrestage at the “Celebrate Africa, the Grand Finale” event in Johannesburg on July 9, two days before the World Cup final.
Bocelli will be joined on stage by Adams and South African soprano Pretty Yende.
FIFA had previously announced that Alicia Keys and Shakira would headline a concert on June 10 to mark the start of football’s biggest tournament.
FIFA’s original line-up for the Kickoff concert was criticised by South Africa’s government, which said it didn’t have enough local performers. — AP
