KUALA LUMPUR: Walkers Teoh Boon Lim (pic) and Lo Choon Sieng are the first two Malaysians to qualify for the New Delhi Commonwealth Games athletics competition in October.
Both walkers earned their places after beating the 20km qualifying mark of 1’31:17 at the Asian race walking championships in Nomi City in Japan last Sunday.
Boon Lim clocked 1’30:08 while Choon Sieng recorded a personal best of 1’27:36. However, both have yet to meet the qualifying mark of 1’23:17 for the Asian Games in Guangzhou in November.
The Malaysian Amateur Athletic Union (MAAU) deputy president, Karim Ibrahim, said yesterday that they had targeted several other athletes, among them hurdler Noraseela Khalid, pole vaulter Roslinda Samsu and high jumper Lee Hup Wei to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.
“They have several meets to achieve it,” said Karim.
