LONDON: Portsmouth became the first English Premier League team to seek bankruptcy protection on Friday, enabling the club to cut costs in an effort to stay in business.
The bottom club in the world's richest league was placed into financial administration by the High Court less than two years after winning the FA Cup because Balram Chainrai - its fourth owner this season - was unable to carry debts of around 70 million pounds ($105 million).
