PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) received a boost when Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced a RM1mil grant allocation yesterday.
Najib made the announcement when he visited the Saujana Golf and Country Club yesterday to hand out the Malaysian Open trophy to American Anthony Kang.
The grant allocation will be used for junior development programmes and MGA president Datuk Robin Loh said they are grateful for the support from the government.
“I had a discussion with him today and he has agreed to support our efforts to improve Malaysian golf.
“Golf is fighting to get into the 2016 Olympics and there is a good chance it will make it.
“We have to start building up now and have a strong development programme.
“I hope parents will encourage their children to take up golf as our intention if golf makes it to the Olympics is to bring back a gold medal one day,” he said.
