Football fan fined RM80 for fire flare offence


SHAH ALAM: A Selangor football fan was fined RM80 in default of a week’s jail by the Magistrate’s Court here Wednesday for lighting a fire flare during a Super league football match between Selangor and Perlis at the Shah Alam Stadium Tuesday night.

Mohd Azril Mohd Nizam @ Liom Ong Lee, 20, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at about 9.20pm.

The offence under the Minor Offences Act 1955 carries a maximum RM100 fine or a month’s jail, or both.

The fire flare was produced in court as an exhibit.

In mitigation, Mohd Azril, told magistrate Hafizah Abdul Rajak that he had just been retrenched and pleaded for leniency.

Deputy public prosecutor H.C. Lim appeared for the prosecution. Mohd Azril paid the fine. -- Bernama
