ALOR STAR: The semi-finals and final of the 2008 Piala Agong rugby competition will be hosted by Kedah at the Jalan Suka Menanti ground on Dec 18 and 20.

Kedah have been given the honour to play host by virtue of having qualified for the quarter-finals of the Agong Cup. They were runners-up of the MRU Cup competition played earlier.

Kedah will take on Negeri Sembilan in the first quarter-final at the Jalan Suka Menanti ground on Dec 14 while the other three quarter-final matches -- Kelantan versus Selangor, Armed Forces versus Police and Sabah versus Perlis -- are all to be played in Subang on the same day.

The winners will qualify for the Agong Cup semi-final while the losers play in the Plate competition, also in Alor Star.

President of the Kedah Rugby Union Datuk Amiruddin Embi said, “The Sultan of Kedah Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah is expected to grace the final.”

All matches will be played at 5pm.

He also said that Selangor will be relegated to the President’s Cup competition while Kelantan, as 2008 champions, will take their place in the MRU cup competition next year.
