PETALING JAYA: Ahmad Fazli Sham is on track to defend his Expert overall title after clocking the fastest time in practice in the final round of the Petronas Sprinta AAM Cub Prix Championships at the Sepang Circuit yesterday.
Fazli, who is hoping to be the first rider to take home the newly revamped four-stroke Expert overall title, set the fastest time of 1:34.530 on wet conditions for the Shell Advance Maju Motor team.
Mohd Edzuan Abdul Gani of Motul KMC YY Pang and Mohd Iskandar Raduan of Petronas Sprinta Raceline are the next fastest in 1:34.822 and 1:35.017 respectively.
The 26-year-old, who leads the championship standings with 144 points, praised his mechanics for the excellent set-up of his machine yesterday.
“This time my bike setting is extremely good. We came here for setting on Thursday and I had some problems with the cylinder head but my team resolved it within a short time. If not for the wet condition, I could have set a better time,” said Fazli, who will be fighting for the Expert title with his younger brother and team-mate Ahmad Fazrul, who has 126 points.
In the Novice category, championship leader Abdul Muhaimin Roslan also took a step closer to winning his first title after setting the fastest time in practice.
The Shell Advance Maju Motor rider clocked 1:26.946, followed by Kangar winner Elly Idzliaikmal Ilias (1:26.972).
Race day for the final round will begin with the heats at 9.30am and end with the Expert final at 4pm. Tickets, priced at RM20, can be purchased at the Circuit today.
