Nick Heidfeld has called for a fairer system of penalties in Formula One after a recent series of controversial decisions led to claims that officials were interfering with the championship outcome.
The German, who drives for BMW Sauber, said he supported the return of a permanent race steward in a bid to avoid the mistakes and inconsistent decision-making that has blighted this season.
