SYDNEY: A few weeks after American Michael Phelps won a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, his predecessor as the king of world swimming has started studying for a university degree.
Australian Ian Thorpe (pic), who retired in 2006 after a career that included five Olympic gold medals, 11 world titles and 13 world records, is a Bachelor of Arts psychology and linguistics student at Macquarie University in Sydney.
