WEMBLEY: Manchester United beat Portsmouth yesterday to win English football's season-opening Community Shield in a penalty shoot-out for the second straight season.
Portsmouth had forced a 0-0 draw against the Premier League champions but missed their first penalty kick, had their third saved by Edwin Van Der Sar who stopped three kicks in this match last season against Chelsea and lost the shootout 3-1 when Glen Johnson lofted the fourth high into the crowd.
