GLASGOW: Italian side Lazio are looking to sign Manchester City’s Greek international striker Georgios Samaras, the Scottish Daily Record newspaper said on Wednesday.
Samaras is currently on loan to Scottish champions Celtic, where he has scored five times since his arrival in January.
He was also part of Greece’s unsuccessful bid to retain the European Championship at the Euro 2008 Finals in Austria and Switzerland.
“Samaras is a player we’re considering and we’ll see what happens,” Lazio president Claudio Lotito told the Daily Record.
“I can confirm we’re actively trying to sign a striker and hope to secure a deal for one any day soon.”
Celtic’s on-form Polish keeper Artur Boruc said he was unaware of rumours linking him with a multi-million pound move to a host of Premier League sides including Arsenal and Spurs.
“The top 10 clubs in the world are prepared to pay £15mil for a striker but not a keeper,” said Boruc, who had an excellent Euro 2008 tournament despite his side failing to get past the group stage.
“I enjoyed the experience of playing in the Champions League with Celtic and the European Championship with Poland although I was disappointed we didn’t make the quarter-finals.” – AFP
