Nurul sets new record en route to winning gold

SOLDIER Nurul Farhanah of Kedah made a big impact in the weightlifting competition when she set a new Games record in the women’s 63kg event at the Kolej Multimedia Timur in Rusila, Marang, yesterday.

The 20-year-old former Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) student won the gold with a total lift of 180kg, breaking the previous record of 137kg by a massive 43kg.

Her lifts in the snatch (80kg) and clean & jerk (100kg) were also new Games records. The previous record were 60kg and 77kg respectively.

A delighted Nurul said the success would spur her on to make the national squad for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
