Aussies drop plans to investigate athletes' private medical records

CANBERRA: Australia's anti-doping agency has abandoned its heavily criticized plan to examine private medical records of Olympics-bound athletes after discovering it is not legal.

The Australian Anti-Doping Authority announced in March it would check the federal government's Medicare program prescription records to see if athletes in contention for the Beijing Olympics had been taking banned substances.
