Kedah and Selangor stretch lead at top of table

PENANG: Kedah continued to take firm control at the top of the Super League table with a 4-1 victory over Brunei at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Star last night.

The match drew a capacity crowd and the home fans were treated to goals by Badrul Bakhtiar (2nd, 28th), Fadli Baharom (38th) and Marlon James (83rd). Brunei scored their goal through Didier Belibi in the 43rd minute.

Perak lost ground after drawing 1-1 with Sarawak in Kuching.

Kedah meant business from the start and after Badrul struck early, the Canaries had to wait until the 28th minute to stretch their lead. Again it was Badrul who scored with a cracker from the top of the box.

Ten minute later, youngster Fadli blasted home the third goal for the home side. Kedah let down their guard and allowed Belibi to pull a goal back two minutes before half time.

In the second half, Kedah managed to score a goal through James. The St Vincent striker finished off a move by Saramsak Kram.

Selangor chalked up a 2-0 win over Perlis at the Stadium Utama in Kangar to stay five points behind Kedah. Liberian hitman Frank Seator scored both goals in the 32nd and 44th minute.

At the City Stadium, UPB-MyTeam striker Norshahrul Idlan scored a hat-trick in his team's 4-2 win over Penang.

Norshahrul made two lightning strikes in the fourth and fifth minutes and added a third in the 49th minute before Sasa Branezac netted the fourth goal in the 62nd minute.

The scorers for Penang were national defender Chun Keng Hong in the eighth minute and Alex Cabrera in the 74th minute.
