KUALA LUMPUR: Kuan Beng Hong beat Indonesia's Tommy Sugiarto, 21-16, 22-24, 21-13, in the men's singles of the Malaysia Open on Tuesday.
Malaysia's two other men's singles players - Chong Wei Feng and Chan Kwong Beng - lost their respective opening matches.
Wei Feng lost to Taiwan's Hsieh Yu Hsin, 21-14, 11-21, 21-19, while Kwong Beng lost to Austrian Juergen Koch, 24-22, 21-14.
In the men's doubles, Lim Khim Wah-Mak Hee Chun beat fellow Malaysians, Vountus Indra Mawan-Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, 15-21, 21-12, 21-10.
Ng Kean Kok-Hong Chieng Hun also won their match against Chan Peng Soon-Chang Hun Pin, both from Malaysia, 12-21, 23-21, 14-21.
Meanwhile South Korea's Kwon Yi Goo-Ko Sung Hyun beat Malaysia's Khoo Chung Chiat-Mohd Razif Abdul Latif, 21-16, 14-21, 21-12.
In the women's singles, Malaysia's Lydia Cheah Li Ya beat Indonesia's Shruti Kurian, 21-7, 21-19.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's two other women's singles players - Eva Lee and Sutheaswari Mudukasan - both lost their respective matches.
Eva lost to South Korea's Lee Hwa Yun, 21-12, 21-4, while Sutheaswari lost to Pia Zebadiah Bernadet, of Indonesia, 22-20, 24-26, 21-26.
In the mixed doubles, Malaysian pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying beat Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama-Chau Hoi Wah, of Hong Kong, 21-10, 21-15.
The other national mixed doubles pair, Lim Khim Wah-Ng Hui Lin, lost their match to South Korea's Yoo Yeon Seong-Kim Min Jung, 21-12, 25-23.
