PETALING JAYA: Kenneth de Silva easily won the boys' Under-18 title in the AmBank Group Cross Creek SportExcel Malaysian Junior Grand Finals at the Kelab Golf Rahman Putera in Sungai Buloh yesterday.
Kenneth, a Malaysia Golf Association (MGA) representative, posted a one-under 71 for a two-day total of one-under 143 to bag the title by three strokes. Mohamad Iylia of Kelab Golf Rahman Putera , the first round leader, carded a disappointing 76 to finish second on 146.
Wilson Choo of Bangi Golf Resort was third with 147.
“I am delighted to clinch the title. I was confident of my game today and it did help that Iylia was not as consistent as he was yesterday,'' said Kenneth after receiving the Tan Sri Datuk Azman Hashim trophy.
Chan Tuck Soon of Bangi Golf Resort emerged champion in the boys' U-15 category after a 73 in the final round gave him a two-day total of 146.
Ng Choo Teck finished second, four strokes behind with a total score of 150. Kavin Gasper Pius finished third with a score of 155.
In the girls' U-18 category, Amanda Chin of the Malaysian Ladies Golf Association (MALGA) won the title by four strokes. She posted a final round 76 for a 148 total.
Michelle Koh finished second after scoring a 74 for a 152 total. MALGA’s Kelly Tan blew up with an 80 to finish third on 155.
In the mixed Under-12 category, Low Khai Jei of Taiping Golf and Country Club kept up his consistent game to win by three strokes. His total score of 158 was enough to see off second place Muhammad Adam Shafiq (161). Joshua Foo of Royal Pahang Golf Club was third with 163.
Galven Kendall Green of Monterez Golf and Country Club won the mixed Under-8 category with a one-round score of 81. He finished nine strokes ahead of Ryan Wong of Bangi Golf Resort.
