Potting for a podium finish in men’s event

MALAYSIA are hoping for a podium finish from the men in the snooker team event, which starts at the Sima Thani Hotel in Korat today.

The team of Moh Keen Hoo, John Yong Kien Foot and Thor Chuan Leong should advance to the semi-finals after the luck of the draw pitted them against unseeded Laos in the opening tie.

Team manager Melvin Chia See Onn said that the real battle would start from the semi-finals where they will play against either Thailand or the Philippines. “It is tough but we should win a medal,” said Melvin.

Malaysia’s best-ever showing in snooker and billiards at the biennial Games was in Chiang Mai in 1995.

Malaysia are represented by 11 players, including four women. Doha Asian Games silver medallist Esther Kwan and Suhana Dewi Sabtu will also see action today in the women’s 9-ball pool singles competition.
