Hup Wei wins gold, three others better their personal best

BANGKOK: Asian Track and Field (ATF) gold medallist Lee Hup Wei kept his winning streak when he won the gold medal in the Thailand Open yesterday as three Malaysian athletes bettered their personal best.

Hup Wei won gold with a leap of 2.15m, well below his ATF mark of 2.24, also his personal best, and equalled Loo Kum Zee’s national record.

SEA Games silver medallist Mohd Faiz Mohamed finally booked a berth for the Korat SEA Games when he dipped below 14s for the first time, clocking 13.93s to finish second in the final of the men’s 110m hurdles.

He had a personal best of 14.27 which he set at the MAAU Close in Perlis last month.

Two Malaysian sprinters – Mohd Zabidi Ghazali and Arif Naim Jeffrey – also surpassed their personal best in the men’s 100m but the duo failed to qualify for the finals. Mohd Zabidi clocked 10.41 while Arif finished the semi-finals in 10.49. – Bernama
