BANGKOK: Host nation Thailand's success at the World University Games has landed the government with a huge bill under a generous cash reward scheme it offered to all Thai medallists.
The total sum so far is 37mil baht (US$1.16mil) after Thai competitors won 26 medals in six sports ranging from athletics to taekwondo – but that sum could rise further with three days remaining.
