KUALA LUMPUR: High jumper Lee Hup Wei leapt into history when he became the first Malaysian to win a gold medal in the field event in the Asian Track and Field (ATF) Championships in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old Bukit Jalil Sports School student, who had a one-month training stint in Sofia, Bulgaria, also improved his personal best by clearing 2.24m. The mark also equalled the national record set by Loo Kum Zee in the 1995 Chiang Mai SEA Games.
