MEMPHIS (Tennessee): Golfer John Daly (pic) scratched his own face in a bid to cover up his sexual assault on his wife, Sherrie Daly has reportedly claimed in court papers filed on Monday.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper reported that Sherrie disputed her husband's account of an alleged attack on Friday morning.
John Daly showed up for Friday's second round of the St Jude Championship in Memphis with red marks on his cheeks and alleged his wife had attacked him with a steak knife.
The 41-year-old, winner of the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 Open, issued a statement in which he claimed he was the victim of an assault by my wife and alleged that she went after him with a steak knife.
John Daly said last week that he had filed a complaint with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, although no criminal charges were filed.
The Commercial Appeal reported that John Daly sought a protective order against Sherrie to prohibit any contact with him or their 3-year-old son. He also refiled an earlier petition for divorce.
However, on Monday Sherrie fought back, seeking a restraining order against her husband and temporary custody of their child.
In court papers, she is seeking exclusive use and possession of their Southwind home and continued financial support. She said her husband gives her a monthly cash allowance ranging from US$15,000 to US$30,000.
In response to her husband's allegations, Sherrie Daly said she was awakened early on Friday morning by her drunken husband, who was making sexually offensive gestures and remarks before sexually assaulting her and causing unspecified injuries.
Sherrie said she then called 911 and then took the couple's son and her 8-year-old son by a previous relationship to a neighbour's house.
John Daly denied the charges when contacted by the newspaper on Monday.
It's just not true, Bub. It's just not true. That's all I can say, he said. She did what she did, and that's all I can say right now. AFP
