PETALING JAYA: National spikers Beh Shun Thing and Luk Teck Eng emerged champions in the Nakhon Si Thammarat international women’s beach volleyball tournament held in Thailand.
The Malaysian duo, who are preparing for the SEA Games in Korat in December defeated the Thai national junior pair 21-15, 21-18 in the final on Friday.
They had earlier defeated the pair from the Philippines 21-15, 15-21, 15-7 in the semi-finals after having finished as the Group A champions registering wins over pairs from Kazakhstan (2-1) and Thailand B (2-0).
The other Malaysian pair of M. Iswari and Yeah Mei Yan failed to advance from Group B, losing to the Philippines and Thailand A by 0-2 margins.
Shun Thing and Tech Eng took home the 40,000 baht champion prize money while the runners-up won 30,000 baht.
The two Malaysian pairs are also scheduled to compete in two other tournaments in Thailand – the Asian International Invitational Championship in Patthalong (April 9-11) and the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour in Songkhla (April 14-16).
