SYDNEY: Olympic 200m champion Shawn Crawford of the United States won a 100m race yesterday, edging Australian Joshua Ross in an A-series athletics meet here.

Ross was shoulder-to-shoulder with the American until Crawford edged ahead at the line to finish in 10.16 seconds. Ross clocked 10.17.

Crawford, who won gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics, plans to run over 200m at another A-series meet in Melbourne on March 1.

Australian Craig Mottram had little trouble winning the 3,000m in 7:42 in an event which is not part of the World Championships schedule in Osaka in August.

Mottram will attempt to qualify in the 5,000m, which is on the schedule for Osaka, in Melbourne in two weeks. – AP
