PETALING JAYA: National chief coach Yap Kim Hock has warned the national badminton players to watch what they eat as they enjoy their five-day break for the Chinese New Year celebration.

After the festive break, which started on Wednesday, different group of players will get ready for three Europe tournaments – the German Open (Feb 27-March 4), the All-England (March 6-11) and the Swiss Open (March 13-18).

Kim Hock does not want the players to put on extra kilos when they resume training.

“My only concern is that they will put on weight before the upcoming major tournaments. I just hope that they will refrain from eating too much,” said Kim Hock.

Meanwhile, four players decided not to take the long break – and were training instead for the All-England.

Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Lin Woon Fui and Gan Teik Chai-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif sparred with each other for about two hours at the Gymnasium Two in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

National doubles coach Rexy Mainaky had challenged the two pairs, who were both All-England semi-finalists last year, to bounce back from under-par performances this year.
