KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Times Square will play host to the CIMB Kuala Lumpur Open Squash championships for the second consecutive time.
The men's and women's preliminary rounds will be played at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil on March 13-14 while the quarter-final matches will be held at the Lower Ground Floor, Concourse area, Berjaya Times Square from March 15-17.
Berjaya Times Square will again be the venue sponsor by putting up the mobile glass court worth US$50,000 (RM175,000) at the concourse together with terrace seats for the fans.
CIMB are the main title sponsor for the KL Open for the second time.
World number one and two-time world champion Nicol David will start as the favourite to win the women's category while Mohd Azlan Iskandar, who won the men's title last year, and Ong Beng Hee will spearhead Malaysian men's challenge.
The women's event offers a total prize money of US$35,000 (RM122,500) while the men's event has been upgraded from three to four star with a total prize money of US$40,000 (RM140,000).
Deputy president of the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) Datuk Syed Mustaffa Syed Ali they were very thankful that Berjaya Times Square is the venue sponsor.
“The venue is the perfect place to help increase awareness for the game and boost the profile of the championships,'' said Syed Mustaffa after receiving a mock cheque from Berjaya Times Square marketing and promotions manager Rosnah Mohamed Tahir yesterday.
