PARIS: Aime Jacquet, who coached France to victory in the 1998 World Cup final, resigned on Friday as French footballs technical director.
Jacquet led France, who failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup, to a 3-0 win against Brazil in the 1998 final.
He was coach for four years from 1994 to 1998 and centred his team around Zinedine Zidane, the three-time FIFA World Player of the Year.
Jacquet, 65, was a midfielder for French clubs Saint-Etienne and Lyon before coaching at Lyon and Bordeaux.
Assistant technical director Jean-Pierre Morlans is to temporarily take over from Jacquet. AP
