PETALING JAYA: Top seeds Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Lydia Cheah won the boys and girls Under-18 singles titles in superb fashions in the 100Plus Sukan Teras National Junior Circuit Grand Finals here at the Ipoh City Hall Sports Complex yesterday.
Both, however, failed to make it a double victory after losing in their respective doubles events.
Arif of Bukit Jalil Sports School lifted his first boys' Under-18 title when he defeated Lim Fang Yang 21-12, 23-21 in the final.
Earlier, Arif made it to the final after defeating Vountus Indra Mawan 21-15, 21-6 while fellow BJSS teammate Fang Yang thrashed Penangs Tan Yen Min 21-15, 21-11 in the other semi-final.
Arif, however, retired from the doubles final with partner Vountus after trailing Tan Wee Kiong-Mohd Lufti Zaim 1-2 in the fist game.
The lanky Lydia continued to dominate the junior tournaments when she tamed Stephanie Shalini 21-13, 21-15 for the girls' singles crown.
She too could not keep up her momentum in the girls' doubles event. Together with Goh Liu Ying, they lost 14-21, 21-12, 17-21 to Amelia Anscelly-Ooi Swee Wen in the final.
