THAILAND’s Asiad medallists will get a slice of a near US$4mil prize fund and an invite to a special party hosted by the country’s Prime Minister.
Interim Premier Surayud Chulanont will throw a bash for successful athletes on Monday, where gold medallists will be awarded 1 million baht (US$28,300) each.
Silver medallists in Doha will receive 500,000 baht each while bronze medal winners will pick up 200,000 baht each, the Thai Public Relations Department said on their website.
Thailand have a tradition of rewarding their Olympic and Asian Games gold medallists with large sums of cash, although a number of athletes have hit the headlines for squandering the money or quitting sport altogether. – Reuters
