PETALING JAYA: The third day of shooting competition at the Fespic Games witnessed a history of sorts when the top four shooters all bettered the old world record in the Coed 25m sports pistol event.

Ni Hedong of China won with 764.3 points which shattered the old record of 672.4 set by Turkey's Yamac at the 2004 Athens Paralympics while his compartriot Shanyuan Zhao amassed 752.1 points for the silver, ahead of bronze medallist Naresh Kumar of India on 720.6 points. Fourth placed Sebastian Hume of Australia also bettered the previous record.

It was the first world record to fall in shooting held at the Subang Shooting Range here.

Meanwhile, United Arab Emirates' (UAE) Alaryani Abdulla, who shot down 704.6 points for the gold in the Coed 10m Air Rifle Prone, missed the world record by a mere 1.6 points yesterday.

“Though disappointed at not having bettered the world record, winning the gold, more or less makes up for it,” Alaryani said yesterday. – Bernama
