Robinson and McClaren under fire

LONDON: Steve McClaren may have said he was prepared for the media backlash over a tactical gamble that backfired in England’s defeat to Croatia, but it was goalkeeper Paul Robinson who bore the brunt of the British press’ ire yesterday.

Robinson conceded the second goal in a 2-0 loss in a Euro 2008 qualifying match that left England in a four-way scrap for two qualifying spots, when he bobbled Gary Neville’s passback over his foot and into the net.
