LONDON: The furore over the use of agents in the game has intensified after a VAT and Duties tribunal has ruled that Newcastle United lied and certain agents misled the FA in an attempt to avoid tax, British media reported yesterday.
The tribunal ruled last month that the English Premiership club were not entitled to reclaim VAT on a series of payments made to the agents involved in 21 transfer deals between 2001 and 2003.
